王风平，女，1971年生，上海交通大学教授，博士生导师。1998年毕业于华中农业大学，获分子生物学博士学位。1998年起至2008年，先后任国家海洋局第三海洋研究所助研、副研、研究员。1999年8月至2002年4月，被聘为德国Osnabrueck大学客座研究员，从事博士后研究；2006年5月至2006年12月，受聘为美国佐治亚州立大学客座教授。近年来以深部生物圈极端微生物为研究对象，综合利用传统和现代微生物技术，结合基因组学和生物地球化学方法来探寻深部极端微生物适应性机理、关键代谢途径起源和极端生态系统演替等基础科学问题。近5年共发表SCI收录论文27篇，其中第一及通讯作者论文20篇，应邀在国际会议上报告6次。2008年获得中国青年女科学家奖提名奖。承担国家自然科学基金4项，海洋“863”项目2项，大洋项目2项。

以深部生物圈极端微生物为研究对象，综合利用传统和现代微生物技术，结合基因组学和生物地球化学方法来探寻深部极端微生物适应性机理、关键代谢途径起源和极端生态系统演替等基础科学问题，并应用于工程技术的改进。近年来主持自然科学基金，海洋863，中国大洋专项，973课题等国家项目十余项。主要的研究兴趣和工作包括：n
1、揭示深海细菌环境适应的分子机制（以耐压希瓦氏菌WP3为研究模型）；研究深海细菌-病毒相互作用关系。
2、认识深海微生物群体代谢形式，其多样性，独特性和演化过程。
3、深部生物圈未培养古菌的功能和代谢独特性。
